Is Apple On The Verge Of Blowing It Again?

I know, it sounds ridiculous.  Why would one of technologies biggest and most successfully innovative electronic firms be even remotely close to going out of business.  Especially in this gadget obsessed world we live in these days.  When the market for digital electronics, especially cell phones is virtually insatiable, it would seem that running a company with one of the hottest selling phones, should be like a license to print money.  And it’s true, that for the moment Apple is wonderfully successful, and I really wished I owned more stock in them then I do, but they seem to have like to continue making the same mistakes.

I remember, not so long ago, when Bill Gates and Microsoft had to provide enough financial backing to ensure that Apple didn’t go out of business.  This was of course before iPods, iTunes, and iPhones.  But, it was after a number of successful computers brands like the IIe and the original Macintosh.  Both very innovative products, but not very business or marketing smart.  Because Apple closed off the rest of the world from learning and reselling their underlying technology, their products were eventually surpassed by the very generic and vanilla PC with was originally developed by IBM.

Thanks to the internet these days, and some very helpful websites, you can unlock iPhone 4 phones and use them with any subscriber you want.  Which is great.  As consumers we should have a choice, and I’m thankful there are websites and people out there that help me to exercise my consumer rights.  The sad part is however that Apple is doing the same thing over again with the iPods, the iPhone, and the iPad.  Eventually, there will be other manufacturers that come out with comparable products that are cheaper and more flexible for consumers.  For now you can unlock iPhone 3Gs phones with a little knowledge and a bit of easy to use software.  I certainly hope Apple learns it’s lesson soon, and starts giving consumers not just the coolest products on the planet, but the coolest products that we can use any way we see fit.
