Kids And iPhone Protectors

Sometimes, I swear I’m personally making mortgage payments for Steve Jobs home, what with all the Apple gadgets floating around my house. I have three teenage girls, and a spouse that loves playing with their toys. They kids each have their own iPod touches, and the wife and I both have a iPhone. I try not to let the kids get their hand on my iPhone, but inevitably they end up finding some excuse to use it, and I usually end up holding my breath hoping they don’t drop it.
Because of those moments, I don’t mind spending a few extra bucks for some iPhone 4 covers. I have nightmares about my hand held gadgets getting wrecked. There’s a cell phone replacement commercial one of the big cell carriers show where I live. My kids all think it’s funny, but it really is my worst nightmare. It shows two guys walking down the street, and bumping into each other while talking on their cell phones. Well, both phones go flying and land on the sidewalk. Both phones get damaged, but the one guy has a cell replacement with his provider and the other doesn’t. Which is really the sales pitch of the commercial. What get’s really funny, is the guy that’s out of luck, actually kicks his phone onto the street as he’s bends to pick it up, and it get’s run over by a bus. Pretty tragic, if your the guy in the commercial. If your not though, it gives you pause to think about protecting those important personal gadgets with some iPhone 4 cases.

- How To Make Good Software Purchasing Decisions
-
One of the toughest decisions that many companies have to make, is deciding what software is best to run their business. I’m not necessarily taking about large corporations that have their own IT departments that design and build software specific to their core business. What I’m referring to, is business both large and small that have decided to use off the shelf software to run the non-core divisions of their business. I’m talking about what would be commonly referred to as administrative business systems. Departments like payroll, personnel, finance, warehousing, sales, and order processing. These are common tasks that are shared by almost all companies, and an area where costs can be saved by purchasing off the shelf products.
There is no shortage of applications and delivery methods available to companies looking to automate their businesses. Everything from an order management system to customer relations management software can be bought from a third party. I used to work in the IT department of several large companies, and I can tell you this is one trend that had most of us worried about our jobs. As it turned out down the road, nothing could be further from the truth. It’s just a different way of doing business. It’s more efficient and in the long run, better for everyone as a whole.

- Software Your English Teacher Would Hate
-
I don’t think, there’s too many things much trickier to learn than the English language. Of course, the fact that most of us learn it as children when where little sponges that pick up, and mimic everything we see and hear makes it seem easy. But in fact, it is extraordinarily difficult. Just consider the fact that even those of us that learn to speak English as our first language, also spend at least our first 12 years of formal education learning all the nuances of it though school. By the time you’ve finished high school, and if you include your years before school as language learning years, you’ve spent basically the first 18 years of your life learning to communicate in your native tongue. To put that in perspective, it only takes 7 years of university to become a doctor in some places. Interesting huh?
So, while the thought of grammar software probably has my old English teacher rolling in her grave, for many of us, it’s a real blessing. I still get confused, if you try to explain the differences between allegory and metaphor to me. I generally don’t have problems with spelling in my writing, but when it comes to getting all those grammar rules perfect in my written communication, I must admit it is quite a challenge. I’m definitely one of those people for whom (who?) grammar correction programs are written. I do however feel for the designers and developers that create the software. It really does have to be one of the tougher programs to put together.
